AI Sales Agent for WooCommerce (2026): Setup, Pricing and How to Count the Sales

The short answer: You can add an AI sales agent to a WooCommerce store in three ways: a WordPress plugin that runs on your own AI API key, a hosted chat platform connected through a plugin or REST API keys, or a single script tag added to your theme. As of October 2026, hosted options such as Tidio and Zipchat charge by AI conversation or AI reply, while SparkGPT charges $2.99 per month plus 5% of sales attributed to the agent within 24 hours of a chat. Before you choose, know one WooCommerce detail most guides skip: Woo's built in Order Attribution credits the last traffic source in a 30 minute session, so sales that a chat helped close will usually show up as Organic or Direct in your Woo reports.

This guide is for store owners who run on WordPress rather than Shopify. We checked every price and plugin detail below on October 23, 2026.

What a sales agent needs from your store

A support bot needs your order data. A sales agent needs something simpler: clear answers to the questions shoppers ask before they buy. Which size runs small? Does this work with my model? When will it ship if I order today? Is this in stock in blue?

On a WooCommerce store, those answers can come from two places:

  1. Your public pages. Product descriptions, variation names, stock status, shipping and returns pages. Any agent that reads your website can use these, and it needs no access to your admin.
  2. Your store data through the WooCommerce REST API. This is how tools look up orders, read coupons or edit carts. It needs API keys that you create under WooCommerce, Settings, Advanced, REST API, and those keys can be read only or read and write.

The second path gives the agent more power and gives you more to manage. If a tool asks for read and write keys, it can touch orders, coupons and refunds, so treat those keys like a password and remove them when you stop using the tool. If your goal is pre purchase selling rather than order support, an agent that reads your public pages is often enough.

Three ways to put AI chat on a WordPress store

Approach Example How it reads your store What you pay for Good fit when
Plugin with your own AI key AI Engine Your WordPress content; WooCommerce tools through function calling and MCP in Pro The plugin, plus every token billed by your AI provider You enjoy configuring things and want full control
Hosted platform with a plugin or API connection Tidio, Zipchat Catalog sync, plus order data through REST API keys AI conversations or AI replies, by plan You want support and sales in one inbox
Script tag in your theme SparkGPT Your public website content $2.99 per month plus 5% of attributed sales You want a pre purchase sales agent and a bill tied to sales

AI Engine is one of the most installed AI plugins on WordPress.org, with 90,000+ active installations and a 4.9 star rating from 872 reviews. It is powerful and the base plugin is free, but its own listing says you need your own API keys, so your real cost is whatever your AI provider charges for the tokens your shoppers use. WooCommerce product and order tools sit in the Pro feature list.

Tidio has a WordPress plugin with 70,000+ active installations and a 4.8 star rating from about 395 reviews. Its WooCommerce integration syncs active products with a SKU so agents can send product cards in chat, and the plugin page adds cart and order history views. Tidio's Lyro AI agent is billed per Lyro conversation.

Zipchat markets itself as a sales agent and has an official WordPress plugin, version 1.1.0, with 70+ active installations and no reviews yet. Its WooCommerce page says the AI can read the full catalog including variations and stock status, look up orders by email, phone or order ID, and start chats from cart page triggers. To connect products, orders, coupons and refunds, Zipchat asks you to generate read and write REST API keys. The plugin also sends the order ID, total and line items from the thank you page to Zipchat as a conversion pixel.

What each option costs in October 2026

Tool Entry price What triggers a charge Notes
AI Engine Free plugin Your AI provider bills each request Pro features are paid; token costs rise with traffic and model choice
Tidio Lyro From $32.50 per month, billed annually, for 50 Lyro conversations A conversation with at least one AI reply Paid quotas run from 50 to 1,000 Lyro conversations a month
Zipchat Starter $80 per month, or $64 per month billed annually Each outbound AI reply, 750 per month Extra packs cost $49 per 250 replies; Pro is $240 per month billed annually for 3,000
SparkGPT Growth $2.99 per month An order placed within 24 hours of a chat, charged at 5% Unlimited conversations; prepaid credits, agent pauses when the balance runs out

Tidio's pricing page shows annual equivalent prices and offers two months free on annual billing. Zipchat's pricing page lists every plan with a 7 day free trial and a 30 day money back guarantee. All of these are fair models. They just charge for different events: tokens, conversations, replies or sales.

The breakeven math

SparkGPT costs less than a fixed plan when your monthly attributed sales stay below (the other bill minus $2.99) divided by 0.05.

Compared with Monthly bill SparkGPT is cheaper below this attributed sales level
Tidio Lyro entry, billed annually $32.50 $590
Zipchat Starter, billed annually $64 $1,220
Zipchat Starter, billed monthly $80 $1,540
Zipchat Pro, billed annually $240 $4,740

Here is what SparkGPT costs as sales from chat grow:

Attributed sales in a month SparkGPT bill
$0 $2.99
$1,000 $52.99
$3,000 $152.99
$6,000 $302.99

Read this honestly. If chat already drives $6,000 a month and your volume fits in 3,000 replies, Zipchat Pro costs less. SparkGPT is the safer choice while you are still finding out whether chat sells at all, in slow months, and for stores whose traffic spikes around launches or holidays. A year with no attributed sales costs $35.88.

Installing a script based agent on WordPress

Script based agents, SparkGPT included, install the same way on almost any WordPress theme. SparkGPT's widget is one line:

<script src="https://admin.sparkgpt.ai/widget.js" data-api-key="YOUR_WIDGET_KEY"></script>

  1. Build and test first. Enter your store URL at SparkGPT, let it read your pages, and ask it your hardest pre purchase questions on the Free plan. Testing is free and needs no credit card.
  2. Add the script to your footer. The simplest route is a header and footer code plugin such as WPCode, which keeps the snippet safe when your theme updates. Editing theme files directly works too, but use a child theme.
  3. Check your caching plugin. Performance plugins can hold back third party scripts. WP Rocket's Delay JavaScript Execution option, for example, waits for a mouse movement, scroll, tap or key press before running scripts. If the chat bubble appears late or not at all, add the widget address to the plugin's excluded JavaScript list, then clear the cache.
  4. Check your cookie banner. If a consent tool blocks scripts until a visitor accepts, decide which category the chat belongs in and test both answers.
  5. Test on mobile and on a product page, not only the home page, and place one test order to see how it appears in your reports.

WooCommerce already tracks order origin. Here is why chat sales hide in it

Since version 8.5, released in January 2024, WooCommerce has shipped Order Attribution, enabled by default for new and existing stores. On every order it stores the referring source, UTM tags, device type and the number of pages viewed in the session. You see it in the Origin column of the Orders list and in a meta box on each order.

Three details from WooCommerce's documentation matter for chat:

  • It is last click. It gives 100% of the credit to the last source that brought the visitor to your site.
  • It uses session cookies. A session lasts 30 minutes by default, and the data cannot follow a visitor across sessions.
  • It tracks where visitors came from, not what they did on your site. A chat is not a traffic source, so a shopper who arrives from Google, asks your agent three questions and then buys will show as an organic Google order.

This is not a flaw. Woo's report answers "which channel brought this buyer?" A chat vendor's report answers "did a conversation come before this order?" Both can be true for the same order, so never add the two numbers together.

To check any vendor's sales figures, take the order IDs the vendor credits for a week and find them in WooCommerce, Orders. Confirm each one exists, was paid and was not refunded. Then look at how long after the chat each order was placed. A 24 hour window will credit fewer orders than a multi day window, and that is the point: a short window counts the orders a chat most plausibly influenced. Our guide on how to measure chatbot attributed revenue covers holdout tests if you want to measure true lift.

With SparkGPT, the attributed number is also the bill. A visitor who chats is tagged, an order within 24 hours is attributed, each order appears in the ROI dashboard, and the 5% is charged on that same list. If your store needs a custom connection for order data, the Done For You plan includes integration with custom sites. Ask about it at hello@sparkgpt.ai before you go live.

Prepare your product pages before launch

An agent that reads your site can only be as clear as your pages. Before you switch it on:

  • Put sizing, compatibility and materials in the product description, not only in images.
  • Name every variation in words a shopper would use.
  • Show stock status and, for backorders, a ship date. Our backorder and preorder guide shows what to write.
  • Keep shipping, returns and holiday cutoff dates on pages the agent can read. See our holiday shipping cutoff guide for 2026 carrier dates.
  • Run the pre launch test with real customer questions from your inbox.

Which option fits your store?

Choose a plugin with your own AI key if you are technical, want everything inside WordPress and are comfortable watching an API bill.

Choose a hosted platform such as Tidio or Zipchat if you need order lookups, a shared inbox, WhatsApp or Instagram, and your chat volume is steady enough to pick a plan.

Choose SparkGPT if your main goal is turning product page visitors into buyers, you want to test for free before paying anything, you prefer not to hand out read and write store keys, and you want your bill to rise only when chat leads to an order. Shopify sellers can follow our Shopify setup guide instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add an AI sales agent to WooCommerce without a plugin?

Yes. Script based agents install by adding one script tag to your site footer, either through a code snippet plugin or your child theme. SparkGPT installs this way and reads your public product and policy pages, so it does not need WooCommerce REST API keys to answer pre purchase questions.

How much does an AI chatbot for WooCommerce cost in 2026?

As of October 2026, AI Engine's base plugin is free but you pay your AI provider for usage, Tidio Lyro starts at $32.50 per month billed annually for 50 conversations, and Zipchat Starter costs $80 per month or $64 billed annually for 750 AI replies. SparkGPT costs $2.99 per month plus 5% of attributed sales.

Why does WooCommerce show my chat sales as Organic or Direct?

WooCommerce Order Attribution records the last traffic source that brought the visitor, using a 30 minute session cookie. A chat happens on your site, so it is not a traffic source. An order that followed a chat keeps the source the visitor arrived from.

Is it safe to give an AI chatbot my WooCommerce API keys?

It can be, but limit the risk. Create keys with the lowest permission the tool needs, use read only if the tool only looks things up, and revoke keys for tools you stop using. Read and write keys allow changes to orders, coupons and refunds.

Why is my chat widget not showing on my WordPress site?

The most common causes are a caching or performance plugin that delays JavaScript, a cookie consent tool that blocks scripts until visitors accept, or a script added to a theme file that was overwritten by an update. Exclude the widget from delayed scripts, clear your cache and test in a private window.

How does SparkGPT count a sale?

When a visitor chats with the agent, the session is tagged. An order placed within 24 hours of that chat is attributed to the agent, listed in the ROI dashboard and charged at 5%. Orders from visitors who never chatted, or placed after the window, cost nothing.
